Gram counters rejoice! A more minimalist version of my best-selling Bend Alpha Pants. These are just the Bend Alpha Pants without pockets. But if you are planning to wear these as a base or mid-layer, or only as camp pants on a long hike, then you really dont need pockets so... here you go. Save some money and definitely some weight and bulk. Removing the pockets saves about 1.5 ounces per pair.
Available in three fabric weights! These Alpha Direct joggers feature spandex ankle cuffs, a spandex waist with elastic drawstring, and a crotch gusset.
A note about sizing: If you are between sizes, size up. Alpha Direct doesnt have a ton of stretch so you dont want these to be undersized. Ordering your standard size will be an athletic fit, definitely great for base or mid-layers, or outer layer if you arent wearing anything too buly underneath. Ordering a size big will be a loose or baggy fit. Great for loungewear and outer layers.
The price goes up $5 with each increase in fabric weight you select. So it is $85 for 60 gsm, $90 for 90 gsm, and $95 for 120 gsm.
weights for size Medium:
60 gsm= 3.5 ounces
90 gsm= 4.25 ounces
120 gsm= 6.25 ounces

5'6 160 lb F. I ordered size L alpha leggings (now listed as joggers). The fit was perfect, but the thighs wider and more airy than preferred. Magnet responded to my concern immediately and offered to exchange them for a M. I wanted them to fit the same, but with narrower thighs. I suggested perhaps I could baste and return them to surge off the excess fabric. Magnet was very agreeable. I sent them back basted, and received the altered pair in less then two weeks. Love this small business!
These pants are fantastic! Bought the 120 weight for winter trips and to round out my Alpha collection. I own 60 and 90 weight versions from other companies that I use for warmer months. These pants kept me super toasty on my recent trip and it felt like they added 10-15 degrees (maybe more) to my sleep system. So warm that I’ll be bringing a lighter quilt next time. The quality and fit of Magnet Designs is superior! Definitely buying more.
Finally got to take these on an overnighter in the Columbia River Gorge. This is my first piece of Alpha Direct, the material (60gsm) does everything I've read about and more! I layered these under my shorts at camp which kept me toasty while sitting yet incredibly breathable when walking around. I really appreciate that Magnet offers 3 weights & custom inseam lengths. A 26" inseam (usually 30) still reaches my socks & hugs my ankles while staying off the ground. Bringing them on the JMT 2025!
The pants are well constructed and comfy. The elastic on the waist and ankles is a really nice fabric, and the pants fit perfectly all around. There is a drawstring type cinch on the elastic waistband but I find I don't really need it because the fit is already good.
The size chart is accurate, which makes the sizing on these pants smaller than mainstream clothing brands, imo. The waist measurement is based on where the pants fall on the waist, not the natural waist.
I am very pleased with my UL Alpha Joggers. As a plus-sized hiker whose size fluctuates with the hiking season, finding quality, specialized clothing can be a challenge. I often cannot even find my measurements on the size chart of various businesses, so was excited to order these. Still, understanding Alpha isn't super stretchy, I wondered if there was enough ease to accommodate fuller thighs, and am thrilled to report they fit perfectly.
